    Accessibility and inclusivity at LSICT

LSICT welcomes learners and partners from a wide range of backgrounds and professional contexts. Our aim is to design programmes, learning materials and digital services that can be used by as many people as possible without the need for significant adaptation.

    Our overall approach

Accessibility and inclusivity are considered at programme design stage and reviewed regularly as LSICT develops new modules, learning resources and online services. We seek to:

    • Use clear language and consistent layouts in our materials.
    • Offer learning in formats that work across different devices and connection speeds.
    • Reduce unnecessary barriers created by technology, scheduling or assessment formats.
    Who this page is for

This page is intended for prospective and current students, staff, partners and visitors who want to understand LSICT’s general approach to accessibility and inclusivity. More detailed guidance for specific programmes may be provided through programme handbooks and student documentation.

    Digital accessibility

LSICT uses a virtual learning environment and other online tools to support teaching, research and collaboration. We aim to make these systems usable with a range of browsers, devices and assistive technologies.

    Website and online platforms
    • Pages are structured with headings to support screen readers and keyboard navigation.
    • Content is presented with attention to readable fonts and appropriate colour contrast.
    • Key information is provided in text form so that it can be navigated or converted by tools.

As the LSICT website and platform develop, we will continue to review templates and components to improve digital accessibility.

    Documents, media and alternative formats
    • Where possible, learning materials are made available in standard digital formats.
    • Slides and documents seek to avoid dense blocks of text and use clear headings.
    • Recorded sessions and media assets will, where feasible, include transcripts or captions.

If you find a specific document or resource difficult to use, please let the relevant module leader or programme team know so that practical options can be explored.

    Inclusive teaching and assessment

LSICT seeks to design teaching and assessment in ways that recognise different learning styles, locations and professional commitments.

    Teaching practices
    • Use of a variety of formats, such as lectures, labs, discussions and project work.
    • Clear learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each module.
    • Opportunities for students to ask questions and seek clarification.
    Assessment and feedback
    • Assessment tasks are designed to relate to realistic professional and research contexts.
    • Where regulations allow, a range of assessment formats may be used across a programme.
    • Feedback aims to be constructive, actionable and supportive of progression.

Where LSICT works with partner institutions, assessments will follow the relevant awarding body regulations while still reflecting LSICT’s commitment to inclusive practice.

    Study arrangements and adjustments

Students may have different requirements linked to health, disability, caring responsibilities, employment or location. LSICT aims to handle such situations in a practical and respectful way, working within the policies of any awarding partners.

    Discussing your requirements

If you have specific requirements that may affect your studies, you are encouraged to raise them with your programme team at an early stage. This helps us to understand your situation and consider appropriate options within the relevant regulations.

    Examples of possible arrangements
    • Use of accessible formats for core learning materials, where available.
    • Consideration of scheduling where time zones or work patterns are a factor.
    • Signposting to awarding partner processes for formal requests or adjustments.

The exact arrangements will depend on the programme, the awarding institution’s regulations and the nature of your request.

    Feedback and contact

LSICT is committed to improving accessibility and inclusivity as the institution grows. Feedback from students, staff and partners is an important part of this process.

    Reporting an accessibility issue

If you encounter an accessibility problem with the LSICT website, learning environment or materials, please contact the relevant programme team in the first instance. For general enquiries, you can use the contact routes on the LSICT contact page.

When you contact us, it is helpful if you can describe the page or resource, the difficulty you are experiencing and any tools you are using.

    Ongoing review

As LSICT develops its programmes, partnerships and digital infrastructure, this page will be reviewed and updated to reflect current practice. Any substantial changes will be reflected in updated policy and guidance documents.
